Eve (ع)
In veils She came forth,
hidden by external appearance
In the tincture of color within every germination!
At first creation,
She showed Herself to Adam
In the locus of the Manifestation of Eve
Before the rule of maternity!
— Ibn al-Fāriḍ, Dīwān*
*Ibn al-Fāriḍ is alluding and playing upon the name of Eve (ع) as denoted in Genesis 3:20 as being the acrostic for "the Mother of All-Living" or "All-Living Mother" (em kol chai אם כל חי امّ كلّ حيّ).
**R.A. Nicholson's rendering of the passage:
She showed Herself by veiling Herself, and She was hidden in that —in which She was manifested, assuming tints of diverse hue in every appearance. At first creation She became visible to Adam in the form of Eve [before the rule of maternity]
