Pulling plug on FB/Meta over 90 day period
303
Over the next 90 days I will be slowly but surely permanently transitioning away from Facebook/Meta because the writing is on the wall that Facebook/Meta’s use by date is fast approaching. Given the plummeting of its stock value, there is every chance that this platform may not even be around in the next two years. The Europeans are already positioning to have Facebook/Meta banned outright on the continent, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine has fast forwarded their resolve.
This morning complaints by me were lodged against Facebook/Meta with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for a litany of issues that clearly establishes Facebook/Meta as i. a platform actively facilitating criminal activity across international borders and ii. a platform facilitating targeted harassment of individuals whether by governments or corporate actors across international borders. While I am not holding my breath that said Australian government agencies will actually do anything, reporting on Facebook/Meta to these agencies is a civic duty in order to establish a lengthy public record against it and its founder, even if such government agencies don’t lift a single finger at this time. However, a public record will have a cumulative effect over time, and I encourage others either here in Australia or elsewhere to do the same. This company must either even handedly abide by the rule of law in every country and continent it operates in, or, one way or another, it must be brought down with its founder and board brought to book in courts of law.
That aside, I will be on email and on Telegram. A few of the groups and pages I run and administer will be deleted* but archived after the 90 day period are up.
That said, certain dogs have been barking long enough. It is now time for this barking to be silenced permanently.
*What is being urged far and wide ATM is to keep these groups as they are without deleting them, and that is probably what I will do.
