There are two online courses I am thinking of offering this coming year, but after Ramaḍān. The only question is where? Zoom or another platform like Telegram?

 

The first is a slow reading of Ibn ꜤArabī's *Bezels of Wisdom* (fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam). Besides Ralph Austin's translation, there is another translation of this in English by Caner Dagli which is also quite good, and in certain passages more accurate than Austin's. I have a Pdf of both. I myself would be using SN Aḥmad's recent critical edition of the Arabic text which is superior to Afīffī's old Cairo edition.

 

The other would be a course on the Divine Names based on the commentary on the Divine Names by Sharīf Kāshānī, which is both a metaphysical as well as an occult commentary simultaneously. Unfortunately, this one only comes in a Persian translation.

 

If I did either of these, I would require serious people who would commit to see each or both of these courses through to the end. They would need to read whatever they are required to read and come prepared for each session as if they were taking an actual university course. Obviously there will be no quizzes, midterms or testing involved, but there will be discussion, and each of these courses could go on for a while.

 

Rather than fill up a classroom, I am thinking of no more than 28-38 people all up for each course.
